Day 21: Poppa? August 23, 1861

First things first, my family and I woke up too a banging on the door, Poppa rushed down stairs to see what was going on. It was Mr. Jackson he said it was an emergency and that Poppa needed to come quickly. Mr. Jackson handed a piece of paper to Poppa, I couldnt see what it was I think its bad news. I hate this! I really do, everything is twisting and turning and I dont like it anymore im tired of it. For the love of tomatoes, can everything just go back to the way it was. Does President Lincoln not realize what is happening here, how much trouble and stress is put on each family individually. Everything is craving in, everything is getting worse, there seems to never be good news anymore these days.

Poppa came inside and went to go talk to Momma, there was a worried look on his face and I really need to know what is going on. What was Mr. Jackson talking bout? why was he holding that paper? All my questions were answered when Poppa came back down stairs, he said that sometime back in July after the Battle of Bull run that there is a blockade forming, it was a blockade of the south. I dont understand how that is a bad thing, its a good thing that means the south as an advantage. Poppa said no, we are tryin to end this war, not continue it and the war does not need to be taken out to the sea. There are rumors that this blockade will take place right here, near South Carolina. Which can mean we are in bigger trouble. Uh oh!
