Day 27: Tyler Jackson October 14, 1861

Rose came runnin over this afternoon, she was out of breath and she held up a letter to me. Her Momma said it was from Tyler and that Rose wanted me to read it to her. This is the first letter they have received yet, so Rose was very excited to hear from her brother. Eric has been sick, so I just read the letter to Rose and she would go over and tell Eric later. The letter read:

A letter! A letter to say, my first ever! I aint writen this clearly, so if its hard to read im sorry. My friend Nelson over here is helpin me write this, but anyway. I heard that yall moved since ive been gone, so I hope this letter gets to you. Im sure it will cuz this is a small town where everyone knows everyone, even the mail man. I sure do miss home, I dont know what happened but I guess ill find out when I come home. General says we may be able to be released for the holidays, and I sure do miss you Rose and Eric. Momma and Poppa I miss you too, ill be home as soon as I can and to tell you that I am very safe. Ive met some pretty cool people in the camp, but everythin is calm right now. Love you all

Aint that amazin! My brothers helpin their friend when he doesnt even know that we are neighbors. When I read that letter to Rose, her face lit up like the sun! It sure did make my day, now she has the feeling that I have every time a I get a letter from the boys. I hope Eric feels the same way, Rose says that she wants her brother home soon! As so do I.
